At just 24 years old, Naychonne is already making his mark in the world of barbering, following a family tradition started by his father and continued by his uncles. For Naychonne, the job of a barber is more than just cutting hair—it's an art form. Meet Naychonne Orman in our seccion TALENTS OF ARUBA section.
How did you enter the world of barbering?
Everything started with my father who had his own barbershop (TOUGHCUT). When I was little, I was always with him at his barbershop. Then it continued with my uncles at Jcuts and Act of Fade, who also made a significant impact in the barbering world here in Aruba. This sparked my interest in continuing with this family legacy. I was always inspired by my father and uncles.
How has your family influenced your development as a barber?
Working with my uncle Jcuts helped me grow a lot as a barber. He was always there to assist me with any details during the haircutting process. Additionally, his passion for the work inspired me every day with different unique cuts he made, allowing me to see the world of barbering from another perspective.
How do you keep yourself updated with the latest trends and techniques in barbering?
Through social media, I keep myself updated on every new trend and technique that emerges, so I can offer these to my clients in my work.
What has been your biggest challenge as an independent barber?
The biggest challenge was the beginning, working in 3 different barbershops and cutting hair for only 2 to 4 people a day. This made me start thinking about whether I really wanted this as my profession and how I would do it if one day I didn't get more clients. How would I survive from this? But the love and passion I have for barbering and also the motivation I received from my uncles, made me steadfastly believe in my plan and myself. So much so that I can say that today, I am blessed with clients who support me.
Your personal philosophy when dealing with clients and their unique desires?
I always try to provide my clients with unique cuts at the highest level. I want them to feel unique.
Influence of art/artists in your work?
One of the artists I admire and am inspired by is Rob the Original, who is a very talented individual and inspires many other barbers around the world.
What makes you different from other barbers?
What makes me different from other barbers is that I do my work with love and dedicate all my time to my client to bring 'the cut' to their taste.
Your aspirations for the future?
Follow in the footsteps of my uncle who lives in America to continue expanding and growing in the world of barbering and show that Aruba also has talent in the barbering world.
What do you want your clients and the community in Aruba to remember and value about your service?
That I will always provide them with the best version of my service, with a lot of love, so they always stand out with their unique cuts.
