Aruba is opening a new chapter with a significant announcement: the direct route to Brazil is back! This will begin on December 18, 2024, with three weekly flights operated by GOL Airlines. This new flight provides Aruba with a golden connection to Brazil. Additionally, it opens up possibilities for connections with Argentina, expanding Aruba’s reach into the Latin American market even further.

It is no secret that the Brazilian market is a strong one for Aruba, known for visitors who have a high spending level on services and experiences during their stay. The flight will operate on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays with non-stop flights departing from São Paulo, Brazil, at 3:30 PM and arriving in Aruba at 9:00 PM after six and a half hours in comfortable Boeing 737-8 MAX aircraft with a capacity of 176 seats. The timing of these flights arriving in Aruba is strategic and perfect, as it is a time when the airport has all the space to handle the passengers. To celebrate this, a special price of $460 has been introduced to reserve the flight, giving an additional incentive for many people to explore and enjoy this new route.

Aruba has a history of connections with Brazil dating back more than 20 years, to the time of Air Aruba which had direct flights to Brazil. This connection was of great benefit, facilitating tourism and bilateral business at that time. After the operations of Air Aruba as an airline ended, Aruba continued to try to reconnect with Brazil through various other airlines and countries, but direct flights did not take place until now.

“If I’m not mistaken, about ten years ago we signed an MOU with the company GOL. We have always stayed in contact with them and they have always shown interest but it never materialized. Now we have been working hard on this project for about a year, which is now being realized and will start next December,” said Jo-Anne Meaux-Arends, Aviation Business Development Executive at Aruba Airport Authority N.V., after the official announcement of the return of GOL Linhas Aéreas to Aruba.

At the same event, the success of the new route to Medellin with Avianca was celebrated. This marks another significant step in connecting Aruba with more destinations in Latin America. Avianca has started this direct flight, and the route is showing great promise, with a large number of passengers enjoying the easy and fast connection to Medellin.

These two major announcements indicate a significant advance for Aruba’s tourism market. Prime Minister Evelyn Wever-Croes and Minister of Tourism Dangui Oduber were present along with dignitaries from AAA and the Colombian Consul and press to highlight the importance of these developments. With the return of the route to Brazil and the expansion of the flight to Medellin, Aruba solidifies its name on the international tourism map.

With this, the Latin American market continues to grow and reaches up to 32 weekly flights to our island. This translates into a significant increase in the number of seats available from the most important markets. It is good to mention that among the Latin American routes, the four most important hubs of the continent are included, which are Bogota, Panama, Lima, and Sao Paulo.

After this announcement from GOL, it can be mentioned that Avianca remains the airline bringing the most tourists from Latin America with 15 weekly flights to our island from different destinations. In second place is Copa Airlines, flying 10 times a week from Panama. In third place is Latam Airlines, flying four times a week from Lima, Peru to Aruba. And lastly, GOL, which from December will fly three times a week from Sao Paulo to Aruba.
