Why Politics?

I firmly believe that to achieve structural and lasting change, you must be where decisions are made, where our country is managed, and where laws are created. Through politics, you can influence decisions that shape our future and implement solutions to real issues we face.

What makes you the right person for politics?

My abilities as a legal expert, my dedication as an activist, and my experience in government put me in a unique position to identify real problems and relentlessly advocate for a fair and sustainable Aruba.

How do you stay 'updated'?

I prioritize listening to the people's concerns to take action. In addition to keeping up with new developments in law, sustainability, and technology, I focus on scientific knowledge and education to base every decision on current data and research. I seek dialogue with experts, academics, and leaders in different areas. My commitment is to work toward an Aruba that advances and prospers, where e

How do you maintain human contact in an era of social media?

By using social media and the press to stay visible, connected, and reach the community, but my priority is personal contact. I attend community meetings and events where I can interact with people in a humble, personal setting. I believe in the importance of genuine dialogue to truly understand our people's concerns and to maintain my commitment to the community's well-being.

Most Urgent Challenges?

  • Environmental protection to maintain a healthy Aruba; promoting social welfare and security for everyone in our community; and stimulating economic prosperity without compromising future generations' resources. All these must be balanced.

Key Areas to Act On?

Aruba stands to lose a lot in terms of environmental sustainability if we don’t act immediately. Without a strong focus on sustainability, our natural resources and landscapes will remain vulnerable to irreversible damage, affecting every other aspect of life, including health, tourism, and our economy.

My plan to preserve and strengthen our country focuses on implementing laws to protect our environment, promoting renewable energy, raising public awareness, and establishing a responsible and sustainable waste management system. This focus on waste management and environmental protection not only preserves our nature but also creates economic development opportunities and job growth in recycling and innovation. In this way, our country can prosper sustainably, providing financial stability, environmental protection, and a healthy future for our people.

What makes an honest politician?

An honest politician serves their people with respect and absolute transparency, without any personal gain or interest, and puts the general welfare first.

How do you keep yourself honest in politics?

I will regularly provide accountability, take responsibility for every action, and make fair and transparent decisions, prioritizing our people's well-being.

My commitment is to maintain the community’s trust for a dignified and united future.

Ideal Length for a Political Career?

A political career is not about time but results. A politician should remain in their role as long as they can continue to have a positive impact on their community without compromising their integrity or the people's well-being. My commitment is to serve as long as I can bring positive and lasting change to Aruba, basing every decision on what is best for our island and our people.

Vision for the Next 4 Years?

Previous governments have invested a lot of public money and spent time creating plans and conducting studies for nearly everything, and we have experts in our civil service, but all of this is of little value if our politicians lack the will, ability, or integrity to execute or manage it properly. We need to value more what we have: our people, our nature, and our tourism. We don't need more political plans or rhetoric; we need politicians with will, ability, and integrity. Our world, society, and economy are constantly changing, and new surprises always arise, so any plan presented today will have to be adjusted or changed along the way. Take the pandemic, for example; every plan changed, and new ones had to be introduced. I have already demonstrated that I have the ability, will, integrity, and courage to face great challenges, even without political power. I invite the public to review all my published articles and reports (a simple Google search of my name and family name) to see my focus on the environment, waste management, human rights, a just Aruba, and good governance. Now I am entering politics to make it happen.

My “plan” is to listen to the voice of the people and, together, change the direction we are heading. We have the ability to adjust our sails and create opportunities for a course change.

  • Ask yourself if you want to keep seeing an Aruba that struggles, or if you want to change this.

  • Do you want to keep seeing the cost of living rise, or do you want to change this?

  • Do you want to keep seeing nepotism, or do you want to change this?

  • Do you want to keep seeing our young people unable to afford homes, or do you want to change this?

  • Do you want to see our healthcare fall behind, or do you want to change this?
  •
Do you want to keep seeing more hotels filling up space, or do you want to change this?

I invite you to join me in changing the course we are heading for a better Aruba.

How do you plan to achieve the change you seek?

I will achieve the change I seek by maintaining continuous communication, ensuring that every decision is based on the real needs of our community. I will focus on laws, expert advice, private sector, and concerned organizations to work on sustainable and effective solutions, maintaining transparency and integrity at all levels to achieve the community's well-being.

As a legislative attorney with 20 years of experience in government, I have advised and represented ministers on various occasions, including in court. I have gained a deep understanding of how the system works and recognized how much injustice occurs and how much is overlooked due to a lack of knowledge, integrity, and ability. This has given me a unique perspective and the ability to detect the problems affecting our community. Recognized in society and internationally as an environmental activist, I have faced challenges without political backing. I have fought persistently, taking legal action to protect Aruba’s environment, securing a verdict to close the Parkietenbos landfill and halt the incinerator. Activism has made me aware of how hard citizens must fight to be heard and obtain their rights. An activist takes action, and a politician often uses rhetoric or makes empty promises. As an activist, I have already shown a capacity for action to bring change.

I carry all of this in my heart, and now, in the political arena, with the same humility, perseverance, and dedication: "My voice is your voice." My goal is to continue working for a dignified, fair, and sustainable future, for the well-being of our community.
