Not every professional life story begins at a university. Some begin in completely different places and moments, even in chaos. Thaina was born and raised in Aruba, in a world where cameras, videos, lights, production, and creativity were the daily bread of her family. Her parents, owners of Pro-Video, one of the first video production companies in Aruba, were pioneers in projects for many private companies, banks, hotels, and the government. They were also among the founders of ATV 15. She grew up in a studio, surrounded by scripts and the buzz of production, naturally believing that television and news would be her future. But her path was far from linear. She was a rebellious soul with a mind that didn’t like rules. She dropped out of school four times, each time telling herself, “I’ll fix that later.” She began working at TeleAruba, editing news tape to tape, thinking that was enough. But during a visit to a friend’s graduation in Orlando, she experienced an awakening: as her friend walked across the stage to receive her diploma, Thaina realized she was still standing in the same place in her own life. Something deep inside her shifted.

“I returned to Aruba and faced all my fears.” At 23, Thaina earned her high school diploma, and two years later, she decided to move to Orlando, Florida to study. Over the next ten years, she worked, studied, and built her future. She earned her Associate Degree at Seminole State College and later her Bachelor of Science in Radio & Television at the University of Central Florida, with minors in Hospitality, Digital Media, Film & Cinema Studies, and Marketing. During this time, she met her life partner (they’ve now been together for 16 years) and became a mother first to a daughter, and two years ago, to a son.

When she returned to Aruba, she applied for dozens of jobs but often heard the same phrase: “You’re overqualified.” Eventually, she joined The Casino at The Stellaris as Marketing Supervisor, where she discovered her passion for hospitality marketing. Two years later, a simple conversation with her daughter’s teacher changed everything: “Your daughter said she only sees you in the mornings.” That was Thaina’s second awakening. She made herself a promise: “I will not sacrifice my family’s presence for a paycheck.” That promise opened the door to a new chapter. She took a position at Digicel Aruba as Marketing Executive, where she worked for nearly three years leading campaigns, strategies, and brand launches. Later, she continued growing and became part of the opening team of Embassy Suites by Hilton Aruba Resort as Marketing Manager. But when her son was born, her dreams and sense of purpose began to shift: “I realized I didn’t want to keep working for other people’s dreams, I wanted to build my own.”

With a baby in her arms and in what she calls the biggest “meltdown” of her life, Thaina founded Lumin8 Marketing Agency, a remote, women led agency designed to help businesses shine with authenticity. She started with just one designer, paid from her own salary. Today, Lumin8 has six women of different ages and backgrounds, each contributing their unique magic.

Lumin8 began as a small idea grew wings of its own. Now, Thaina leads sold-out workshops in Aruba and abroad on Canva, branding, and creativity in business. “I love what I do. It doesn’t feel like work, it feels like joy,” she says with a grateful smile. For her, teaching others is a form of connection and a reminder of why she began.

Throughout her career, she saw leaders driven by fear and ego and promised herself she’d never lead that way. She leads with empathy, emotion, and energy. Thaina explains she no longer seeks balance but harmony: “As a mother and entrepreneur who’s worked in three major industries, I’ve realized the famous ‘work-life balance’ is a myth. For years, I tried to keep everything perfectly even, family, work, health, social life but something always suffered, and often that was me. I was there for everyone, except myself.” Now, harmony is her truth: “I’ve learned it’s okay to pause and be present with my kids, and it’s okay to dive into work when creativity calls me. Real balance isn’t perfection, it’s alignment.” Thaina believes in energy and authenticity: if a project doesn’t naturally shine, she doesn’t force it. “I’ve found the courage to say ‘thank you’ and move on, not out of arrogance, but out of respect for my peace.”

With the help of her business coach, she faced the fears of failure, visibility, and even success that had been holding her back. Now, she leads without fear, without filters, and with one goal: to lead to inspire, not to control. This mentor helped her become the leader she was meant to be, a creative guide unafraid to be different. She doesn’t compete with anyone; instead, she collaborates with two other marketing agencies on the island, creating together, because that’s how you achieve more.

Thaina has worked with Go Cultura Foundation, leading all marketing for CreActivo Conference 2025. She also led a six week workshop for the Youth Parliament, teaching young politicians about social media, communication, branding, and storytelling. She’s created a wave of inspiration both in Aruba and abroad, with her sold out workshops on Canva, branding, and creativity. When she teaches, she’s in her element.

Thaina sees many people especially women and students, following the path society expects, while their inner voice is screaming, “I want more.” She believes we’ve been taught to settle, to shrink our dreams, and to avoid risk. “But taking risks isn’t madness, it’s courage.” She fell four times, went back to school at 23, and later in life built a business that now helps others shine. “It’s not impossible, it’s just uncomfortable.” Real growth comes when you face your fears and stop living for others’ expectations.
