On more than one occasion, we have shared the steps of Patrick vd Linde's journey as a plastic surgeon. In every interview, Patrick always expressed his wish to one day return to Aruba, where he grew up and where his family and roots are, notably his mother Irene vd Linde from the Family Laboratory. After 17 years away from home, Patrick vd Linde is now back in Aruba, and he hasn't returned empty-handed. The experience and knowledge he gathered over the years abroad are unparalleled, and Aruba is ready to receive all the benefits.

Patrick's path to becoming a plastic surgeon was not simple. He began his education in the US where he completed 2 years of Pre-Med. His next stop was Costa Rica, dedicating 7 years of his life to studying medicine. His desire to further specialize took him to Bogota, Colombia. This was not an easy task, considering the fierce competition for the few available specialization spots. "I graduated with the highest score and thus became the first foreigner to enter the Universidad de Rosario. I stayed there for 4 years. It was during the time of the FARC where, as a doctor, we would go into the field or work in temporary hospitals treating people in extreme trauma due to bomb explosions or other severe aggressions.

So we were in a military field. It wasn't only Patrick's academic formation that distinguished him, but also his ability to adapt to challenging situations. His reputation grew, and it wasn't long before Brazil recognized his talent, inviting him for further specialization in plastic surgery at the University of Sao Paulo, one of the best in the world. "They themselves asked me to apply for an additional specialization in Reconstructive Plastic Surgery and Microsurgery Reconstruction. My last year in Colombia, I learned Portuguese and thus qualified to do residency at the University of Sao Paulo (top 6 in the world) where I studied and worked for 5 more years.

Now that he is back in Aruba and after having worked for a long time in top hospitals in other countries, Patrick sees the difference with a hospital like Aruba's. Compared to larger hospitals, Aruba's small hospital provides a trustful environment where everyone knows each other. The similarity with a rural hospital in Costa Rica is striking, where the pressure is less, and the team is more compact. On the other hand, larger foreign hospitals present other challenges: they focus on research, the adoption of new technologies, and a continuously rigorous academic approach. The most notable difference is in Costa Rica, where the medical teaching system doesn't limit students to mere observation. "In the US, students just observe while in Costa Rica, you get the opportunity to start working with patients much earlier and learn much faster.”

After a brilliant trajectory abroad, Patrick felt the call of his homeland: Aruba. He has gathered wisdom and learned about advanced technologies in the medical world, particularly in aesthetics. From innovative countries like Brazil, where medical development is at a high level, Patrick acquired knowledge of advanced tools. For example, the use of CO2 lasers for wrinkle treatment and rejuvenation, or the application of ultrasound to speed up the surgical process. In his collection, there are machines that revolutionize the industry: a liposuction device that incorporates vibration to break down fat and another Vaser-lipo laser type that facilitates the fat removal process.

There's also the impressive Renuvion plasma machine, creating a connection between skin and muscle, perfect for those with saggy skin. For facial care, the Morpheus8 machine combines radiofrequency with micro-needling, creating a rejuvenating effect. But it's not just the technology that makes the difference. It's Patrick's dedication and passion for his profession that truly stands out.

And now, with a clinic equipped with the latest innovations, Aruba can expect world-class service in the field of aesthetic surgery. Our small island has the privilege of having such a professional with this level of expertise back home, ready to serve its community.
