"The inspiration to establish CUA came from a desire to create significant change and innovation in our sector. Initially, we faced a significant challenge in gaining support from other companies. We observed a prevalent concern about possible government retaliation. This initial phase required us to navigate these concerns while remaining firm in our commitment to our fundamental values and objectives. Now that we are recognized and renowned, we are growing exponentially, becoming a larger guild with a unique and unparalleled platform in Aruba."

CUA's mission is to promote a higher awareness and collaboration among entrepreneurs. With the development of the CUA App, they anticipate providing a valuable resource for every merchant in Aruba. "On this platform, members can find important and relevant information from different industries, ask questions, participate in polls, share concerns, discuss problems in their community, market their companies, and receive exclusive invitations to courses related to various industries. Also, the government or unions send us important documents or information so that we can share them with our members on the app. The idea is to create an environment where merchants can support and assist each other, and if necessary, CUA aims to bring these problems to the government's attention to explore potential solutions."

Among CUA's achievements is the significant change in how customs calculate duties on purchases from abroad, such as Amazon, which has benefited not only merchants but also the entire community. "Previously, they calculated based on the full price of items purchased from foreign companies, without considering the discount prices offered by the company. CUA actively advocated for a fairer approach. As a result, the customs department revised their policy, and now they are calculating duties based on the correctly discounted prices."

"Our goal is to influence policies and decisions that can lead to a more sustainable cost of living for everyone in Aruba. Our commitment is to be a bridge between the business community and the government, ensuring that the concerns and challenges our members face are heard and addressed effectively and fairly.

  • Members of CUA can only be local companies with the owners living in Aruba.
  • Foreigners can also become members, but they must be living in Aruba.
  • Large multinational companies are not eligible to become members if their owners do not live here.
  • Government companies (such as SETAR, WEB, etc.) cannot become members.

In essence, CUA represents only local companies. This focus ensures that our efforts and resources are dedicated to addressing the unique challenges and needs of local businesses, fostering a supportive community that aligns with the economic and social landscape of Aruba. We respect and collaborate with all professional associations.

"For those who aspire to influence the economic well-being of their community; start with a deep understanding of the unique needs and challenges of your community. Interact with local businesses, community leaders, and residents to gain insights. Use this knowledge to stimulate initiatives that align with these needs. Collaboration is key; look for ways to form partnerships with existing organizations or groups. Maintain persistence and adaptability. Change takes time and requires continuous effort and flexibility. Educate yourself on economic trends and policies, as this knowledge can be powerful in shaping effective strategies. And finally, join Comerciante Uni."

"The ability to bring merchants together and make real changes that benefit both the business community and the government, and Aruba as a whole. We are an organization focused on the economic well-being of our community and take care of their well-being in a holistic way. The mix of advocacy, education, collaboration, and dedication to bringing practical solutions is a reflection of our greatest success. Our goal is to influence policies and decisions that can lead to a more sustainable cost of living for everyone in Aruba. Our commitment is to be a bridge between the business community and the government, ensuring that the concerns and challenges our members face are heard and addressed effectively and fairly.”

"Many businesses are afraid to express their concerns, especially if they are involved in selling or doing business with the government - They may have concerns but choose not to express them. Now, with a support group and board members who are sincerely committed to the well-being of all our members, we provide a voice for any member of CUA. This role is crucial to ensure that the interests and concerns of local businesses are heard and addressed, creating a more inclusive and representative business environment."

"We are recognized as a legitimate association by the government and are definitely called in for every discussion that takes place, ensuring that our voice reaches the government and beyond. This recognition is a significant step in validating our efforts and establishing CUA as a key player in the dialogue between businesses and government, reflecting the positive impact of our representation and the growing influence of our organization in shaping the policies and decisions that affect the local business community."
