Jason Gerling, a renowned physical trainer and mindset coach, co-owns the celebrated Bodyzone Fitness Club in Aruba. His journey from the Netherlands to various high-security roles in the U.S. and Aruba was anything but linear. It was this very restlessness that eventually led him into the realm of fitness. Raised in a world that preconditions us for success and happiness, he realized that life doesn't always align with our meticulously laid out plans. This realization, common to many of us since childhood, pushes us to question our purpose and place in the world, often leaving us feeling disconnected from our own happiness. Jason admits,

Today, after a six-year journey of self-discovery and transformation, he courageously shares a story that is not solely his, but a shared narrative that resonates universally in the human experience.

My tenure in the police force conditioned me to unwavering resolve, constantly testing my mental and physical limits. This relentless pursuit of strength became second nature, shaping my later roles as a security director and freelance bodyguard. But in this ceaseless race, I lost touch with my inner voice. Self-imposed expectations became constant companions, their whispers growing louder over time. My once reliable fortress – an unyielding mind and steadfast control – began showing cracks. I found myself constantly suppressing emotions, ignoring the need for introspection. It dawned on me that running away from my thoughts wasn't the solution. True healing would begin only when I acknowledged these hidden wounds and faced them head-on. So, I decided to seek professional help – my first step towards transformation. As I turned inward, I began my journey to truly understanding myself. Later, I identified the root cause of my condition and learned how to cope with it, and ultimately, change it. I realized MY GREATEST STRENGTH BECAME MY WEAKEST LINK.

Has there been a time in your life where, despite things going well, there's a voice in your head questioning everything, maybe even sabotaging these positive occurrences?

It's something we all face at some point. We're all different, and we cope with this in our own way. But for some, like me, it was a form of self-torture. Despite battling these inner demons, we still show up in daily life with a straight face and carry out normal activities. So, essentially, we wear a mask and continue on life's path. But I learned this wasn't sustainable.

Jason received a recommendation from a client to read the book "The Untethered Soul" by Michael Singer, and this book became a crucial turning point in his life, resonating deeply within him and giving him an even deeper insight into his turbulent emotions.
"Since that time, I started with long nature and beach walks and daily meditation."

In his quest for inner peace, Jason embarked on a transformative ten-day Vipassana Meditation course in Canada. “I was about to delve into the depths of my soul.” It was here he spent days in silent retreat, immersed in untouched wilderness, far from societal noises and daily grind. This silence was more than the absence of noise – it was an invitation to explore his consciousness, a space to confront and embrace his deepest fears and insecurities. "In the tranquil lap of nature, I found the peace my mind was yearning for."

"Real growth is understanding that you're not just the voice in your mind, but the listener behind it." - Michael Singer
This newfound wisdom sparked a significant shift in Jason's perspective. He understood the symbiotic relationship between body and mind, reshaping his approach to fitness. With his co-founders, he transformed this realization into Boyzone Fitness Club - a unique space for individuals to build not just physical but also mental resilience.

"I used to think strength was about blocking out pain. But I've learned that true strength is about acknowledging it, understanding it, and growing from it." - Jason Gerling

Jason Gerling's journey unveils a new dimension of strength. It's not just about the power of our muscles or the resilience of our bodies. It's about delving deep into our fears, questioning our long-held beliefs, and learning to grow through our struggles.

"It’s not about running away from your thoughts; it's about acknowledging them. It’s okay not to be okay. Understand that vulnerability is not a sign of weakness, but a symbol of courage." - Jason Gerling

HOW MEDITATION
REALLY CHANGED MY LIFE

I learned to experience deep awareness of the present moment, enabling me to observe my thoughts and emotions without judgment. This clarity brought a sense of inner peace and stability, allowing me to navigate life's challenges with greater resilience and peace. This practice empowered me to break free from unhealthy patterns and habits, leading to personal growth, improved relationships, and a renewed sense of purpose.

If someone reading this finds themselves dealing with mental turbulence, I recommend three things: first, talk to a professional; second, examine your habits and inner narrative; and third, surround yourself with a support system.

"Life is short; if you're 40 or older, you probably won't be here in 60 years. What's the use of not being fully immersed, passionate, and happy about your life? There will be many ups and downs. But it's not whether it will happen; it's how you will react to it."
