"I remember dreaming about attaining a position within the accounting/finance field since I was 15 years old. My initial attraction to this field was the importance of finance in the success of a business and my belief that I could play a role in that," shares Ivana. She had her first job experience in 2014 as an Accounting Clerk at Marriott Aruba. Later, in 2018, she graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Finance and started off her career at Grant Thornton Aruba as an Audit Associate.
After working in finance for years and achieving a significant weight loss, Ivana noticed an increased interest in her fitness journey on social media. “Back in 2014 -- Instagram started to boom in the U.S. and health and fitness influencers were just starting to become THE next big thing. And so I opened my fitness account and started – sharing my own personal health and fitness journey; my workouts, daily meals and recipes, nutrition and fitness information.
During that time, I had decided that at some point in my life – I will be a Certified Personal Trainer, a Nutrition Coach, and a Certified Yoga teacher. All of which fall within the health and fitness spectrum.
It was the COVID-19 lockdown that became the turning point in her life. "Within a month, I started and completed my personal training certification. When I finally received my certification in my hands, I quickly realized that this is the exact path that I need to walk into," Ivana enthusiastically admits.
THE TRANSITION
Transitioning from a stable, well-established career in finance to a completely different industry was not an easy decision. "For the first time in my life, I would start something from scratch, no handbooks, no teacher, no manager. It was an unpaved road, a road where nothing was laid out . Her family was skeptical at first, but their skepticism soon transformed into support as Ivana's client base started to grow. Despite fears and doubts, the fear of regret was the most significant driving force behind her decision.
PERSONAL GROWTH
My personal growth has been immense since the start of my fitness journey, with my physical transformation varying annually. Every year, I switch my training style and partners, offering practical learning experiences that complement theoretical knowledge. Importantly, my training always aligns with my personal fitness goals and is mindful of my body's needs, ensuring it is not only sustainable but also enjoyable and beneficial.
Moving to the U.S. initially strained my mental health. However, by establishing key lifestyle habits centered around health, I have grown stronger mentally. I've gained confidence in my skin, recognized my potential, and developed a clear vision for my future.
As a personal trainer, Ivana finds immense fulfillment in witnessing her clients make progress and lasting positive lifestyle changes. "Each client has a different starting point and different goal. It’s rewarding to assist a client in attaining their physical goals, increase their self-confidence, expand their knowledge in nutrition, grow mentally stronger, and most importantly, build a better, stronger, and healthier relationship with exercise and nutrition."
THE FUTURE IN SIGHT
Looking into the future, Ivana sees herself as a dedicated wife, mother, successful business owner, and a health and fitness specialist traveling, hosting yoga retreats, nutrition seminars, and fitness classes. Her next milestone is to become a Certified Yoga Teacher. " It's not just about the physical aspect, it also brings mental and spiritual benefits that can be truly transformative. I want to bring this holistic approach to my clients and help them experience wellness in all aspects of their lives."
She aspires to open her own health and fitness facility, providing services such as personal training, group classes, and health and nutrition advice. Ivana believes that by setting a positive example, she can motivate more people to take better care of their health.
"Accumulate as much experience and knowledge as possible, and never stop learning. Try to do what you love on the side, and if the passion is still there, it's worth giving it a shot," she concludes, encouraging others to dare to follow their passion just like she did.
