Daniela Perla Crafton embarked on a journey that would change her life forever, discovering the true essence of resilience, family, and entrepreneurship. Her story, one of accepting change and forging a unique path to success, unfolds as she shares how Vacation Rentals became a crucial part of her life, not only for financial stability but also for precious moments with her family.

"I was desperate," she confessed. At a pivotal moment, a friend asked her a question that would change the course of her life forever: "Why don't you put your apartment on Airbnb?" Memories of her time in Holland, where she had first encountered Airbnb through the 'Amsterdam Mamas' group, came flooding back. However, Daniela recognized the urgent need for financial stability and took this step, filled with faith. "However, I felt that I fell short because my place wasn't luxurious, but the reality was that I needed money to start." She bought furniture, transformed her apartment, and thus entered the world of Vacation Rentals.

As a single mother, Daniela encountered a unique set of challenges in her effort to balance her responsibilities as a superhost with her duties as a mother. Juggling work, raising her children, and managing the Vacation Rental proved demanding, often requiring her to pick up her children late from school. Nevertheless, Daniela tries to strike a balance by transparently communicating with her children about the family's financial needs, teaching them the values of resilience and adaptability. "I told my children that I would pick them up late and that we needed the money. They understand and appreciate that I have the opportunity to pick them up and take care of them."

One of the most profound gifts of managing a vacation rental, according to Daniela, is the precious time it affords her. "I can be a mother and see my children every day after school, pick them up, and stay home during school holidays, which is a privilege.

Yes, I may not have the money to go on vacation or buy things I want, but everything in life has its time and place. This is the price I pay to watch my children grow alongside me. Today, every evening, I'm home, and we talk about different topics!

Every Monday, we practice 'Family Night' to share a motivational message as the new week begins, and we can also play games. Sometimes, we sit in the backyard or sing with a ukulele, not always successfully, but we try every time! Why? Well, time passes quickly, and one day they'll be where they need to be and continue their journey, and we'll have only the memories we've created.

I have immense respect for mothers who work outside the home because I know how it feels to work long hours and not be able to work from home. You are warriors!"

Item 1 of 1

For those hesitating to venture into the world of Vacation Rentals, Daniela offers a message of hope and empowerment. She encourages individuals to take a leap of faith, listen to their inner voice, and showcase the unique qualities of their community. In her words, "We are a family, and what you have to offer to the community is unique! There is no one like you, so go for it! We need you; you belong in this market!"

Despite the challenges facing the Vacation Rentals industry, Daniela advocates for its value to Aruba:

1. When Aruba did not have hotels, this was how we welcomed guests: we opened our homes.
2. Guests staying in Vacation Rentals are not the same as those in hotels. They represent two different demographics.
3. Accepting diversity by welcoming people from all walks of life.
4. It diversifies local businesses and restaurants, boosting the economy!

Daniela dreams of a brighter future for her community, envisioning the revitalization of her beloved Caya Grandi. She anticipates bustling streets filled with conversations and excitement, driven by Vacation Rentals guests exploring local restaurants and shops. Her aspiration reflects her unwavering commitment, not only to her family but also to the cultural richness of her island.

Resilience is the key! Remember, every person is delicately crafted; honor and celebrate each other as they are.
